History of the Sociedad Filarmónica
During 2015, the Sociedad Filarmónica de Vigo celebrates its 100th anniversary of continuous activities. Although there is evidence of an organisation already functioning in the 19th century that regularly organised concerts in the city, it is from 1915 when we have documents providing history about the Sociedad.

During these 100 years, orchestras and soloists of great prestige have performed in the Sociedad programmes. As evidence, it not only counts with archives and programmes conserved in its installations, but there also exists a historic Bernstein piano on which signatures of some of the pianists who performed for the Sociedad, like Brailowski, Von Gool, Iturbi, Cubiles and violinists such as Nathan Milstein are engraved on it.

The activity of the Sociedad Filarmónica de Vigo has never been interrupted and during the Civil War, the concerts continued, since in the city there were many musicians who were obliged by circumstances of the war to remain in Vigo, which allowed the Sociedad Filarmónica to continue its programmes. Until today, there are more than 1,200 concerts documented and currently all the classical music programmes enjoyed by the city of Vigo are included in its Schedule. The Sociedad maintains an agreement with AFUNDACIÓN, owner of the theatre where the concerts are performed, as well as with two Galician orchestras: Sinfónica de Galicia and Real Filharmonia de Galicia. At present there are 470 members and it is intended to celebrate the centenary of the institution with the publication of a book with the history of these 100 years of the Sociedad Filarmónica, the recording of an album dedicated to Marcial de Adalis, a commemorative concert entrusted to the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and an exhibition of the most important material collected during all these years. All the latter as from January 2015.
