As a music lover and Councillor for Culture of Tres Cantos Town Hall, it is an honour to introduce the Golden Book of Music in Spain, an initiative of the Fundación Orfeo that has already reached its twentieth edition. Undoubtedly, evidence of the good health of the Spanish musical scene.
I strongly believe in the commitment of the Public Administrations, especially town halls, which are the most direct and close entity for the citizens, to promote and support initiatives to artistic creation. And, especially, support to classical music, a unique experience in the development of people and the nurturing of essential social values for citizens of all ages.
This book is a mirror of today’s music in Spain, with information about numerous orchestras, institutions, festivals and competitions that enhance classical music. It is a tool for consulting and disseminating which contributes our musicians and orchestras to reach a greater presence and recognition in its field of activity.
We are in an important moment for music in Spain, with world class soloists and orchestras and festivals of recognised prestige. Nevertheless, there still remains a path to tread and, both Administrations and private entities should continue making the effort of our musicians reaching the visibility they are worthy at home and abroad.
We have an important musical heritage to defend and is the work of everybody, each one from their institutional position, doing it with the effort it deserves.
From Tres Cantos Town Hall, a young city and with enormous cultural interest we will continue trusting our new creators. This year we celebrate our 25th anniversary as an independent municipality, with an important musical involvement as it cannot be otherwise. We have consolidated the Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea de Tres Cantos, which reaches its sixteenth edition. And we want to continue along this path, because we know it is our best contribution of the city’s future.
Cultural experience is intrinsic to human being and enriches everybody, allowing us to look at the future with optimism, in a free and advanced society. From Tres Cantos, we will continue contributing our grain of sand so that musical creation is present in the life and hearts of all our neighbours.
