The Fundación GSD is a non-profit institution fostered by the Cooperativa Gredos San Diego. The Foundation was created by the cooperative when reaching an important level of development with new schools and projects, it became necessary to have an efficient instrument to manage improvement of the educational quality in the centres with an outer projection towards society. This prestige has been accumulated over many years thanks to the positive action in the educational field. Hence, a group of members of the Steering Committee, constituted the Foundation on July 6th 2005.
The aims of the Foundation GSD may be defined as the development of cultural, educational, sporting, environmental and leisure activities, as well the promotion of the social economy as a whole and particularly, cooperativism. Without forgetting other goals like development and cooperation and the promotion of community service projects.
Within the varied cultural activities, the music area is well looked after by the Cooperativa Gredos San Diego. Of the 14,000 students rendered educational services, it maintains a School of Music and Dance with an average of 1,000 students per year. Classes are given for all types of instruments —piano, guitar, violin, wind-wood, wind-metal, percussion or harp— and musical and vocal groups are created. Moreover, the cooperative is the owner of the Centro Profesional de Música Gredos San Diego, a centre where all types of specialities given in the School of Music may be given, including modern music.
On the basis of this reality and experience, the Foundation trusts compatible musical projects and which help the visualisation from outside of the level of excellence achieved in the educational community.
Specifically worthy of mention are several musical projects promoted by the Fundación GSD, well prepared and with different levels of complexity, like the Children’s and Youth Choir GSD, of high voices, the Coro Fundación GSD, the Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Clásica Gredos San Diego and II Festival de la Guitarra de Madrid.
Starting with the children’s choir, there already existed choirs in some of the eight schools, but five years ago, the Foundation promoted a children’s choir of high voices, for which maestro José de Felipe got involved in the Project as conductor. Today, the conductor is the tenor Jaesik Lim.
In 2016 the choir has continued growing thanks to the students of the school choirs, as well as the Centro Profesional de Música GSD. They have advanced in repertoire and worthy of mention is the performance in the Teatro Monumental together with the Grupo Vocal y Orquesta Milenium, as well as the II Encuentro de Coros GSD.
The Foundation has promoted the constitution of the Coro Fundación GSD, under the baton of Professor Jerónimo Marín, baritone and oboe player. This mixed adult choir counts with 72 members and has achieved a high technical and aesthetic level, taking on a varied repertoire. We may mention among other events, the participation in the Auditorio Nacional de Música with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the inclusion in different choral series in Madrid Town Hall and the staging of the work Little Mass Jazz.
For the third consecutive year, we are promoting a children’s choir for children belonging to families at social exclusion risk in the municipality of Rivas-Vaciamadrid, under the baton of Erica Zisa and in collaboration of the social services of said municipality.
