The Fundación Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura y Saberes and Salamanca Town Hall have promoted the Centro de Producción Musical “Ciudad de Salamanca”.
During the presentation of the Centre in July 2013, the city Mayor, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, explained that currently, Salamanca Town Hall has a Municipal School of Music and Dance where more than 700 students study each year. It also has an agreement with the Joven Orquesta “Ciudad de Salamanca” consisting of about 90 musicians between 12 and 25 years of age and a Municipal Band, a stable music programme developed in the CAEM, “hall B” and the Jardines de Santo Domingo, mainly, and occasionally the Teatro Liceo. Moreover the city counts with the only Senior School of Music of Castile and Leon, a Professional Music Conservatory, numerous choirs, private halls that offer live music and an association of musicians joining 18 groups of the city.

The aim pursued by the future Centro de Producción Musical is, on the one hand, to extend the musical offer of the city in all disciplines and, on the other, to join all these individual efforts that today are supported by public institutions, associations and from the private field to create a common and coordinated proposal.
The Centro de Producción Musical intends to promote the music created in Salamanca from all fields and create new opportunities to participate in joint musical projects, as summarised by the Mayor.
For such a purpose, a number of initiatives have been implemented. First of all, enhance the Banda Municipal de Música, since it has a stable concert programme including its participations in important events in the field of culture held in the city, offer educational concerts aimed at strengthening the like for music among school children and increase their offer of concerts in halls.
This schedule is developed between September and July and is available in different formats for the citizens to enjoy the concerts of the Banda Municipal.

Besides, a Joven Banda Municipal de Salamanca has been created and coordinated by the Escuela Municipal de Música and whose purpose is to offer young students from Salamanca training complementary to their musical studies, as well as the possibility of performing scores of all styles. Its concerts form part of the programme of the Fundación Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura y Saberes and are performed in the different municipal centres distributed in different districts.
Under the name “Hall B”, a specific programme has been created, being nourished by local groups and also others of a national scope. The goal is to transform this scenario in a reference venue of today’s music. Among the local groups the performance of those wishing to present a new discographic work is given priority to introduce them and support the musical production. At the end of the year, the Fundación Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura y Saberes gathers a collection of all the performance that have been celebrated in Hall B.
From the Centro de Producción Musical the presence of local groups and soloists are enhanced in the programme of entertainment centres of the city under the title “Salamanca de Noche”. A Management service is made available to local groups and soloists which assesses and enhances their activity in festivals and halls in Spain.

It participates in the promotion of recordings, tours or presentation of discs completed by groups of Salamanca. We provide audiovisual resources (photography and video) of their performances in Hall B and a web section is created gathering the activity of the local music scenario, including all the information provided by the groups, performances, audios…
Moreover, from the Youth Council a call for economic aid destined to pay the rental of rehearsal premises for the Salamanca groups has been implemented.
Two contests aimed at young soloists and composers have been implemented. In November 2013 the first edition of the Contest for Young Performers is going to be held to be executed in collaboration with the Certamen de Melómano and the Joven Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Salamanca. This is a regional contest and the winner will be presented before the Salamanca public in a concert performed in the Centro de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música.
In 2014 the Contest for Young Composers “Ciudad de Salamanca” is going to be launched every two years. The winning work in this contest will be performed for the first time in a concert in the city.
In the Escuela Municipal de Música work is being done to create a Choir that participates in the cultural life of the city as from this year.

The collaboration between all the agents of the musical field of the city is fundamental for the Centro de Producción. For this purpose, collaboration agreements are being signed with the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla y León, the Conservatorio Profesional de Música, as well as all the institutions or groups collaborating in this project.
The Fundación Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura y Saberes produces musical shows, operas, zarzuelas, disc and demo recording in which all the production components have the Salamanca stamp.
In the training field a qualitative leap is made. Besides the educational work that is being currently made with school children, the involvement of hallowed artists is requested to carry out Master Classes.
This is a very important project for the city in which the Town Hall has involved three departments (Culture, Education and Youth), managed from the Fundación Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura y Saberes and which has several reference venues, like the CAEM, Hall B and the Teatro Liceo. However, for this project to be really successful, it is necessary the involvement of all those working in the music field in the city.
For this reason, the Centro de Producción Musical is an open project in continuous development and evolution trying to adapt itself to the new proposals and initiatives brought up.
