The 30th edition of the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza ‘Ciudad de Úbeda’ has been held between May 19th and July 5th of this year. The programme has been developed in several heritage sites of the city, of a special artistic wealth, like the Patio y el Auditoria del Antigua Hospital de Santiago, the Sacra Capella del Salvador, the Palacio de Anguish de Medinilla or the Iglesia de San Lorenzo.

In the symphonic section, worthy of mention is the concert of the Orquesta y Coro RTVE, under the baton of maestro Gómez Martínez, the Coro ‘Elena Peinado’ and the mezzo María José Montiel to perform the Third Symphony by G. Mahler, or the great concert of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, under the baton of maestro Hernández Silva and the pianist Javier Perianes.

Worthy of mention the chamber trios concerts with performers like Juan Carlos Garvayo, Isabel Villanueva and Joan Enric Lluna and that integrated by Juan Pérez Floristán, Pablo Barragán and Andrei Ionita. Ballet has had a great impact with the presence of the excellent company of the Ballet de Monterrey (México) which staged the immortal work Swan Lake. Ainhoa Arteta accompanied by the pianist Rubén Fernández Aguirre, and the dancer Pilar Astola featured a programme dedicated to the figure of Federico García Lorca.

The stage music presented three projects: La Fura dels Baus, with the performance of the work Free Bach 212; the actor Juan Echanove and the pianist Azumi Nishizawa with a programme also dedicated to García Lorca La Noche Amarilla; and last but not least, Yllana Teatro, performed its last production The Opera Locos. Also worthy of mention is the presence of the great singer Thomas Quasthoff, accompanied by his jazz group in the section of other music.

Flamenco had two very interesting shows: the singer Rocío Márquez and the great viola player Famhi Alqhai, with there and back music and the Night of Flamenco with three extraordinary figures of flamenco: Carmen Linares, Marina Heredia and Arcángel.

The winners of the competition of Piano Jaen, Guitar of La Herradura and ‘Intercentros Melómano’ were also present in the Festival. Children activities were present with two very interesting companies Claroscuro and La Maquiné.

Finally, current music was also present with Antonio Arias (Lagartija Nick) and Soleá Morente, Martirio and Kepa Junkera. Also important are the activities of La Academia with conferences and training courses.
