It was created by maestro Antonio Chornet Font in 1907 and two years later, the Sociedad Musical. On the Corpus Christi day of 1907 35 musicians with uniform and flag paraded in the street.
In 1925 it competed in the I Certamen Internacional de Valencia and in 1929 obtained the Second Prize in the First Section. In 1933 it attended the International Competition of Narbonne (France) where it obtained three first prizes: on first sight, sonority and execution.
In 1949 the Society was reorganised, recovering its band and resuming the Valencian competitions in the Special Section. In 1950 it returned to Narbonne, where it obtained the maximum result. In 1954, it obtained the Second Prize in the Special Section of the International Competition of Valencia and in 1955, the third. In 1957, it competed in the Castellon Competition and obtained the First Prize of the Special Section.
Afterwards came a continuous line of second prizes in the Special Section of the International Competition of Valencia, until in 1975, it obtained the First. As from this year, there were other prizes in said Competition, among which should be mentioned the years 1984, 1989 and 1992, with Honourable Mention.
In Kerkrade (Holland) it obtained first prizes in 1978 and 1981. In 1990 attended the International Competition of Glasgow (Scotland) and obtained the maximum award. In 1993 it performed in Strasbourg invited by the European Parliament. In 1994, it participated in the National Competition of Requena, where it obtained the First Prize with Honourable Mention.
It obtained the First Prize in the Section of Honour of the International Competition of Valencia in 1997 and 1999. In 2002 and 2004 it won the First Prize with Honourable Mention in said Competition, in 2007 and 2015 it obtained the first Prize, Prize to the Best Performance of a Valencian Composer and the Prize to the Best Band of the Valencian Region, likewise obtaining in 2018, the First Prize of the Section of Honour.
Apart from its first conductor, Antonio Chornet Font, there have been many others conducting the band: Emilio Campos Campos, Pascual Sanchís Chapa, José María Machancoses, Julio Ribelles Brunet, Eduardo Cifre Gallego, Luis Sanjaime Meseguer, Cristóbal Soler Almudéver, Álvaro Albiach Fernández, and Salvador Sebastiá López.
The following trainers have been very important: Manuel Palau, José María Navarro, Ramón Corell, Lucas Conejero, Vicente Prats, Vicente Lillo, José Orti, Víctor Martín, José María Cervera Collado and Rafael Talens Pelló.
Currently, its conductor is Carlos Garcés Fuentelsaz.
Created in 1978, it was the first founded within a Musical Society, thanks to the impetus of the maestro, director of the Society, Luis Sanjaime. In those times, due to the fact that there was practically no other society, it performed numerous concerts all over the Valencian Region, besides some other Spanish cities like Cuenca, Saragossa, Albacete, etc.
In June 1993 it offered a brilliant concert in the Auditorio Nacional de Música. In December 1995, together with the Taller de Ópera de Valencia, they performed in the Palau de la Música the zarzuela La Revoltosa, conducted by José Agustín Fabra Catalá.
At an international level, in 1996, it performed concerts in Avignon (France) and Ahrensburg (Germany). In the summer of 2002, it performed two concerts in Jever (Germany) conducted by Salvador Sebastiá López.
The following soloists have collaborated with the orchestra: Víctor Martín, Pedro Gorostola, Miguel del Barco and Bertram Egger; and the conductors: Lluis Sanjaime Meseguer (director-founder), José Agustín Fabra Catalá, Cristóbal Soler Almudéver, Álvaro Albiach Fernández, Salvador Sebastiá Lopez and currently, Carlos Garcés Fuentelsaz. Guest conductors have been: Juan Pablo Hellín, Juan Luís Martínez, Andrés Tolcachir and Alexis Calvo.
It has participated in the International Festivals of Orchestras ‘Ciudad de Valencia’ in the Palau de la Música and it has been the resident orchestra of the conducting courses given by José Collado and Maurizio Colasanti.
The Orchestra was selected by the Organisation of the National Competition Pro-Art of Taiwan to accompany in an international tour of soloists awarded by this competition.
In February 2017, it attended the I Concurso de Orquestas Bankia de la Comunidad Valenciana, held in the Palau de les Arts and obtaining the Prize for the Best Orchestra in the category ‘Martin y Soler’, the maximum category of the competition for staffs of up to 110 musicians.
