Good music and free concerts for all audiences, that was the original purpose when, more than a decade ago, the music festival taking place each summer in the municipality of Madrid, was born, thanks to the clear intention of the Villaviciosa de Odon Town Hall renowned pianist and artistic director of the festival, Mario Prisuelos, the creator and coordinator of the proposal. A successful musical initiative, launched in 2008, which has become a not-to-miss event in the musical summer of the Madrid Region.
The new edition of the Festival ASISA de Música de Villaviciosa de Odón was held between July 5th and 14th, during two consecutive weekends, outdoors and the traditional venue of the Plaza del Peregrino del Coliseo de la Cultura. Its artistic director, Mario Prisuelos, has opted once again for high quality music in a programme gathering national and international top-level artists.
The famous accordion player Iñaki Alberdi, performing works by Albéniz, Torres, Soler, Granados, Gubaidulina and Guridi, inaugurated on July 5th the eleventh edition of the Festival. The following day, the American pianist of Israeli origin Itay Goren, took the main role in the concert paying homage to the French composer Claude Debussy, on the centenary of his death. The duo integrated by Mikhail Pochekin and Vadim Gladkov, with works by Tartini, Chausson and Wieniawski, closed on Saturday July 7th the first weekend of the musical event.
On July 12th, the cello player from Bilbao Asier Polo, considered by the specialised critics as one of the best cello players of his generation, performed the Suites for solo cello by Bach. The Chamber Orchestra of the Auditorio de Zaragoza (Grupo Enigma —name by which it is normally known—) offered on July 13th a concert with works by Stravinsky and Beethoven. The closing concert took place on Saturday July 14th with the Trío Bacarisse, which with its performance of the Estaciones porteñas by Astor Piazzola and the Trio in D minor for piano, violin and cello no. 1 by Mendelssohn, placed the finishing touch to this eleventh edition of a festival which invites us to enjoy good classical music, free and in a different environment.
